History

Gidauniyar Alheri Community Health Centre (GACHC) began its journey in June 2010, with the initial goal of providing vital primary healthcare to twelve traditional wards in Gwale and Dala Local Governments. Our dedication to the community quickly saw us expand our reach, benefiting countless individuals beyond our initial scope.

Our facility has seen significant milestones:

  • 2010: The Centre was first commissioned by the then Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau.
  • 2020: The Centre underwent a critical multi-million-naira renovation sponsored by Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman. This vital intervention saved our facility from demolition due to severe structural issues and settlement problems.
  • 2021: Following the extensive renovation, the Kano State Government and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) chose GACHC to operate as a free Maternal and Child Healthcare Centre. This pivotal partnership greatly enhanced our capacity and reach.
  • Ongoing Expansion: We are proud to announce another expansion phase sponsored by Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman. This phase will upgrade our facility to offer secondary healthcare services, including Caesarean Sections (CS), advanced surgeries, and more comprehensive laboratory tests. This expansion awaits its official commissioning.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) ‘s intervention in 2021 significantly bolstered our operations, with MSF deploying approximately 50 staff members to various units to ensure successful service delivery. Even after MSF’s formal exit, GACHC has retained about 30 of these dedicated individuals as volunteer staff, providing them with monthly allowances since January 2025, demonstrating our commitment to maintaining high standards of care.
